Learn moreSaitama is one of Japan’s 47 prefectures, located in the Kanto region of Japan’s main island Honshu. Its location and geography mean that within the same prefecture, different regions have distinctly different characteristics.
Saitama’s southeastern area borders the bustling capital Tokyo, its northern region is blessed with fertile soil and a thriving agricultural industry, while the mountainous Chichibu area in the west boasts unblemished, beautiful nature.
Not too rural yet not too urban, this unique balance is key to Saitama’s charm.
Inaka translates to “countryside,” and is used to refer to rural Japan, such as remote villages or islands located away from cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Inaka can also refer to the home in one’s mind. In the inaka, you can experience a slower pace of living alongside lush nature, an authentic traditional Japanese lifestyle, deep cultural immersion, and warm hospitality from a usually tight-knit local community.
Guidebooks may not cover it, but in rural areas, there are still many untapped resources, and you can have numerous experiences that are not possible in tourist destinations. In sparsely populated, undeveloped areas, you can immerse yourself in the beauty of Japan's history and culture, experiencing it in a leisurely manner.
Agriculture in Saitama Prefecture has flourished by utilizing its favorable natural environment, such as its flat terrain, mild climate, and fertile soil, as well as its geographical advantage of being located within a 100-kilometer radius of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Various crops are cultivated using methods passed down through generations.
It takes about an hour and a half by car from the urban areas, and there, lush trees thrive and a river flows. Majestic mountains stand tall, and a clear stream runs gently. Insects chirp, birds dance in the sky, and animals make appearances.
there are many centuries-old traditional houses called "Kominka" that have been handed down from generation to generation for hundreds of years. Moreover, the traditional way of life from the past still perseveres.
You don't have to worry about other people's eyes and time constraints. You can simply follow your own whims and desires. That's the beauty of activities in the countryside.
We aim to bring Japan’s rich but little-known inaka culture to the world, by developing and providing sustainable products and services using cherished resources from the Japanese countryside.
